Hotel Santa Teresa

Hotel Santa Teresa is an Accor MGallery design boutique set in a protected historic mansion atop bohemian Santa Teresa, Rio's hilltop artists' quarter, with sweeping Guanabara Bay and Christ the Redeemer views. Around forty-two individually designed rooms and suites — five categories from Superior through a Junior Suite, four Design Lofts and a Royal Suite — carry Sergio Rodrigues furniture, carved-wood jaguars and Brazilian modern art, from around twenty-five square metres. The Michelin-Guide-listed Térèze plates local and international cooking, the storied Bar dos Descasados pours signature drinks over the view, and Le Spa works within the mansion. A heated, lap-length outdoor pool sits garden-wrapped with sunset and bay views toward Cristo, and the bohemian hilltop of cobbled lanes, studios and the Selarón Steps lies at the door. Santos Dumont is around ten minutes away and Galeão around twenty, on a bed-and-breakfast base. It is the artistic, design-led alternative to Rio's beach hotels — made for couples and travellers drawn to art and the city's most characterful quarter. Below the hill, the Selarón Steps, the Lapa arches and central Rio's museums and nightlife sit a short ride away, the mansion a quiet, art-filled refuge above the city.
