Belmond Copacabana Palace

The Belmond Copacabana Palace has faced Copacabana Beach since 1923 — an Art Deco palace counted among the grandest hotels in South America, and a Rio landmark across a century of famous guests. Around two hundred and thirty-nine rooms and suites in freijó and mahogany carry pink-and-white Brazilian-marble baths and soundproofing, from around twenty-six square metres up to the seven sixth-floor penthouse suites — antique-filled and butler-served — that share a private pool set high over the beach. The iconic heated outdoor pool is the social heart of the place, ringed by loungers with beach service across Avenida Atlântica. Three acclaimed restaurants run the dining, historically an Italian kitchen and a pan-Asian room alongside the poolside venue, and a luxe spa completes the palace. Sugarloaf and Urca sit ten minutes away, Santos Dumont around twelve kilometres and Galeão around thirty-two, on a bed-and-breakfast base. It is grand, beachfront Rio at its most storied — made for couples and culture travellers who want the city's legendary address. Beyond the gates, Sugarloaf, Ipanema and Rio's wider beaches and museums spread along the coast, the palace the calm, glamorous constant at the centre of it all.
