Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro

The Grand Hyatt Rio is a contemporary urban beach resort on Barra da Tijuca's eleven-mile beachfront, set between the Atlantic and the Marapendi lagoon reserve, with interiors by Yabu Pushelberg. All four hundred and thirty-six rooms and suites come with a large private balcony and ocean or lagoon views, deep soaking tubs and rain showers, from around seventy square metres up to a Grand Suite and a Penthouse with its own plunge pool, lounge and private elevator. A large central outdoor pool with a wet deck steps toward beach service, a nine-room spa runs saunas and steam, and a twenty-four-hour gym and yoga studio keep the wellness going. Three Arthur Casas-designed restaurants handle the table — an Italian room, the Shiso Japanese and sushi counter, and a Brazilian and international buffet — with a bar alongside and a Grand Club lounge option. Barra is Rio's modern, spacious western beach district, a longer transfer from the city than Zona Sul but an open, contemporary base, reached via Galeão or Santos Dumont. It is the modern, spacious counterpoint to Copacabana Palace's heritage and Santa Teresa's bohemian boutique — made for couples and families.
