Lapa Rios Lodge

Lapa Rios has anchored the Osa Peninsula since 1993 — a National Geographic Unique Lodge set in a thousand-acre private rainforest reserve buffering Corcovado National Park, at the point where the Pacific meets the Golfo Dulce. Seventeen open-air thatched bungalows climb the hillside above the beach, with outdoor showers, hammocks, screened walls open to the forest and sea or jungle views, from around eighty-five square metres, alongside newer Lapa and Premier Villas and Matapalo Suites; the deluxe bungalows are now air-conditioned, though much of the lodge stays eco by design, light on screens and walls. Stays are full-board, folding in all meals, non-alcoholic drinks, up to eight guided activities and shared Puerto Jimenez transfers, with an eco salt-water pool looking to the Pacific and a spa and yoga area above the canopy. Guided rainforest tours, birding for scarlet macaws, a zip-line canopy and the beach fill the days, and a deep conservation mission runs through everything in what National Geographic has called the most biologically intense place on earth. Reached via the Puerto Jimenez airstrip and a drive, it is a remote stay for nature-loving couples and adventurous families with children aged six and over.
