Kokomo Private Island Fiji

Kokomo is a barefoot-luxury private island at the edge of the Great Astrolabe Reef, the world's fourth-largest barrier reef, on the 140-acre Yaukuve Levu Island in the Kadavu archipelago of southern Fiji. Around forty-five minutes by flight or seaplane from Nadi International, and roughly twenty-five minutes south of Suva, it holds just 26 keys — 21 beachfront villas and five hilltop residences — each with a private infinity pool, a walled tropical garden and direct beach access or elevated lagoon views. The one-bedroom villas run from around 117 square metres, the two-bedroom from around 173 and the three-bedroom from around 209, in an open-plan Pacific design of elegant stonework and artwork by Chris Kenyon, with king beds, walk-in wardrobes, rain showers, deep soaking tubs and outdoor showers. The five named residences — Namara, Dravuni, Ocean, Astrolabe and the six-bedroom Sunset, the largest residence in Fiji — add a butler, a nanny and a golf buggy for multi-generational groups. Founded by the late Australian developer Lang Walker and opened in 2017, Kokomo is all-inclusive, with all meals and non-alcoholic drinks, and built for families: the Kaji Kids Club and a nanny for ages nought to three sit alongside honeymoon appeal. Three waterfront restaurants — the chic Beach Shack, Walker D'Plank for Asian street food in a sheltered cove, and the relaxed Kokocabana — draw on the resort's own 5.5-acre organic farm and vanilla plantation, a Dock-to-Dish fishing venture and the daily catch from local fishermen, while the Yaukuve Spa Sanctuary offers Fijian-inspired treatments and a wet-and-dry hammam in jungle and birdsong. The sea is the real draw: manta rays best seen from June to September, turtles and seasonal whales, a PADI Five-Star dive centre, and the Kokomo Manta Conservation Project run with Manta Project Fiji — manta tagging, identification and an Adopt-a-Manta scheme — alongside a coral nursery on the house reef and mangrove restoration that guests can join. Ashore there are a hilltop fitness centre and yoga shala, floodlit tennis and basketball courts, sea trampolines and glass-bottom boat tours for children, and Fijian weaving, carving and sulu styling.
