The Ritz-Carlton, Jeddah

The Ritz-Carlton, Jeddah is a palatial corniche hotel of royal-guesthouse origin on the Southern Corniche, overlooking the Red Sea and the King Fahd Fountain in the Al Hamra district. It trades on Red Sea views and palace grandeur, not a beach: there is no private beach, but the corniche, the fountain and landscaped sea-shore gardens are on the doorstep, around nineteen to forty-five minutes from King Abdulaziz International Airport and about an hour from Makkah. Its 224 rooms and suites carry Moorish arches, hand-painted ceilings and crystal chandeliers, from 36-to-37-square-metre Deluxe Rooms with balconies to 120-square-metre Executive Suites and 500-square-metre Royal Suites with a Majlis and private dining. Dining runs from the all-day international buffet Reyhana to the Karamel lobby lounge for breakfast and afternoon tea, with two fine-dining venues alongside. The spa is a gentlemen's spa, with three treatment rooms, a soaking tub, sauna and steam, and there is a 24-hour gym for all guests and a pool in the sea-shore gardens. Beyond the gates sit Al Balad's UNESCO old town and the Floating Mosque, with a Saudi Arabian Grand Prix package on the Jeddah corniche circuit and Saudi's largest convention centre alongside. A MICHELIN Key holder, it is an alcohol-free palace on the Red Sea corniche.
