The Breakers, Palm Beach

Founded by Henry Flagler in 1896 and rebuilt in Italian-Renaissance style after a 1925 fire, The Breakers spreads across a hundred and forty oceanfront acres of Palm Beach with a half-mile private beach. Around five hundred and sixty rooms and suites run from around twenty-eight square metres, with the twenty-one-key Flagler Club a boutique-within-the-resort on two restricted floors. Grand family glamour meets golf heritage: two eighteen-hole courses, one of them Florida's oldest from 1897, around ten restaurants from the Flagler Steakhouse to the social HMF, the ocean-to-table Seafood Bar, the grand domed Circle and an Italian restaurant by the sea. A twenty-thousand-square-foot spa and a Mediterranean beach club with whirlpools and twenty-five bungalows sit on the Atlantic, the Via Flagler designer boutiques line the grounds, and a Family Entertainment Center keeps all ages busy. Historic tours trace the 1896 landmark, there is no resort fee, and Palm Beach International is around ten minutes away — a grand historic resort for families, golfers and couples drawn to its glamour.
