Isla Palenque

Isla Palenque is a four-hundred-acre private rainforest island in the Gulf of Chiriquí near Boca Chica, with just eight beachfront casitas and a six-bedroom villa — each casita around fifty feet from the waterline with most of a beach to itself, thatched and open to the air, with outdoor baths, a private garden and a path straight to the sand. A member of the Cayuga Collection and a National Geographic Unique Lodge of the World, it runs all-inclusive: a round-trip Boca Chica boat, three daily meals at Eden's open-air hyper-local table, soft drinks, and guided in-house island tours across seven secluded beaches, with kayaks and stand-up paddleboards. The six-bedroom Beachfront Villa Estate sleeps up to fourteen with a two-level infinity pool and an open-sided rancho lounge. Beyond the beaches lie nature hikes, foraging and cooking classes, yoga and rum tastings, whale-watching from August to November, birding and sportfishing, and snorkelling and diving in the Gulf of Chiriquí National Marine Park. Arrival is by boat from Boca Chica after the flight to David, or by charter flight or beach-landing helicopter. This is barefoot island-eco for couples, families and buyout groups — a single intimate island, distinct from the multi-island archipelago nearby — with in-garden massages in place of a dedicated spa.
