Mahali Mzuri

Mahali Mzuri is Sir Richard Branson's Maasai Mara camp — a Virgin Limited Edition retreat of twelve design-led tents strung along a hillside in the private Olare Motorogi Conservancy, on the edge of the Maasai Mara National Reserve. The conservancy is the point: it is shared by only a handful of camps and capped at around 94 beds, so game drives meet almost no other vehicles, and because it is private land the guides can go off-road and drive after dark — neither of which the National Reserve permits. This is big-cat country, where several lion prides' territories converge, and the camp sits on the path of the Great Migration from July to October. The tents are raised on private decks with freestanding tubs, king beds and the rare luxury of in-tent air-conditioning; there is the Nasaro Spa, an infinity pool over the plains, and hot-air ballooning at dawn. Everything is included — meals, drinks, a premium minibar and unlimited game drives, night drives among them. The bush is reached by a light-aircraft hop from Nairobi; the reward is one of the Mara's most exclusive, low-density camps.
