American Trade Hotel

American Trade Hotel is Ace Hotel Group's first independent hotel — a restored 1917 neoclassical palazzo on Plaza Herrera in Casco Viejo, the UNESCO Old Quarter of Panama City. Fifty vintage-chic rooms and suites pair white-wood panelling and dark wood with Frette linens and Aesop amenities, from around thirty-three square metres, with outlooks over the plaza, the quarter or the Gulf of Panama. Danilo's Jazz Club, founded by the Grammy-winning Panamanian pianist Danilo Pérez, plays live downstairs; Café Unido pours Panama Geisha as a pour-over; and The Dining Room serves local and international plates by chef Clara Icaza, with The Club alongside. A rooftop terrace looks over Plaza Herrera, and the hotel's Cultural Engineers arrange the walkable Old Quarter and its experiences and volunteering in place of a conventional concierge. It sits a five-minute walk from San Francisco Church and the Presidential Palace, near the Canal Museum, about two and a half miles from Albrook and sixteen from Tocumen. This is a design-and-heritage boutique for couples and creatives — jazz, coffee and the old city — with an outdoor pool, a gym and yoga in place of a dedicated spa, and the intimate scale of a restored historic house.
